Lupus is a disorder of the immune in which it harms its own cells and tissues which lead to inflammation and harm to the different body tissues including your joints, kidneys, heart and the blood cells.

People suffering with lupus are at a risk for osteoporosis if lupus is not treated on time. Women are likely to get the disease faster then men. Women who have lupus are likely to fracture their bones soon from osteoporosis.

There are many types of lupus:

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE): This occurs between the ages of 15-45 years.

Discoid lupus erythematosus: In this type of lupus, the patient gets rashes or redness on the skin and the skin also gets very itchy. This problem later on can lead to SLE also.

Subacute Cutaneous lupus erythematosus: In this type of lupus, the skin has lesions that appear due to exposure of the skin to the sun.

Neonatal lupus: In this type, the symptoms are seen in the newborn baby if the mother has SLE.

Drug-induced lupus: The symptoms start in the patient due to the intake of different drugs.

No treatment for lupus has been developed till date but you could reduce the symptoms once you understand the causes and the type of lupus you are suffering from. We can lead a normal and active lifestyle if we take care of a few things in our treatment of the disorders of lupus.

If a patient is detected with lupus, he or she needs to take complete rest. They need to take good sleep because the patient feels very tired and fatigued. The patient needs to avoid going in the sun because the ultra violet rays can aggravate the problems of lupus. The patient needs to do regular exercise. Some other precautions needed to be taken are to avoid smoking and eat a healthy diet.

Lupus is a disease that occurs in the human body due to our own immune system attacking the different organs and tissues in the body. Lungs, kidneys, heart, blood cells, skin and joints in the body can all get damaged if there is inflammation caused by lupus.

Lupus is difficult to differentiate from arthritis. The symptoms in lupus are very similar to the symptoms of arthritis or rheumatic diseases.

Symptoms of lupus are different in every being and start very slowly depending on the part of the body which gets affected first. Different symptoms are:

Fever: patient starts to have mild fever

Hair Loss: falling of hair causes alopecia in such patients

Fatigue: The patient gets tired very soon while working

Joint Pains: pains in the different joints of the body begin

Depression: mind starts to get very slow and the patient starts to feel very low

Memory loss: slow loss of memory also begins as a symptom of lupus

Anxiety: curiosity and anxiety make the patient very hyper active

Chest pain: Risk of a heart attack and pain in the chest also occur as symptoms of lupus.

You should take good care of our diet in order to treat lupus. You should eat a healthy diet that supplements all the nutrients required for the body. Intake of salt should be reduced. Fruits and vegetables should be added to the diet. Excessive intake of sugar is also bad because it only increases the intake of calories and does not help in nutrition. Alcohol is also very bad since it has a negative effect on the medications taken for lupus.

It is advised that you should see a doctor if you have rashes on your skin or if you get tired very soon or if you have fever continuously for some days and feel very low.

Lupus natural care. Lupus is a disorder in the immune system because of which the body cannot fight bacteria and other foreign bodies. The immune system is complex and usually produces fighting agents that attack the viral and bacterial infections. If a person is suffering from lupus, the immune system produces antibodies that target the healthy cell tissues in the body.

The causes of lupus have not been determined. But if you suffer from any of the symptoms listed below for a long period of time, you must consult the doctor and start the treatment for lupus:

Muscle aches

Hair loss

Swelling, tenderness and pain in joints

Loss of appetite

Rashes on the skin

Fatigue

Lesions or scratchy patches on the nose and cheek bones and also sometimes on the scalp. These patches dry off and fall off the body leaving marks or scars.
Fingers turning white and blue due to a sudden reduction of blood in the body.

There are different treatments for lupus depending on the type and severity of its symptoms. A person might have to try out different treatments in order to fight the disease. The different treatments that a person may try are:

Exercise

Avoiding exposure to the sun

Rest

Using drugs or medications

The drugs available for lupus require you to spend huge amounts of money and may also have severe side effects. This is why people are now resorting to natural ways of curing the disease. Some of these are:

Special diets

Homeopathy

Adding the intake of supplements in the diet

These methods do not have any harmful effects but they also do not guarantee the prevention of organ damage. Some of these approaches have been able to only reduce the stress that a person may have if they are suffering from this chronic disease.

Lupus is an autoimmune disease that may be recognized by the acute and chronic inflammation of different tissues in the body. The immune system in our body produces agents such as bacteria that help fight infections.

People who suffer from lupus are not able to produce fighting agents but produce abnormal antibodies which affect tissues within the body.

The causes of lupus have still not been understood. The disease is considered to be caused either by inherited genes, environmental factors such as ultraviolet light, infections, certain medications and also hormonal changes.

In order to diagnose that you are suffering from lupus, you should be able to see at least four or more of the following 11 symptoms:

Butterfly rash: A rash like condition on your face usually in the area of your cheekbones and the nose.

Discoid lesions: Patches on different parts of the body like a rash. These patches are generally red I color and are round shaped.

Oral ulcers: Painless blisters and sores in the mouth or in the nose.

Arthritis: Pains or swelling in two or more joints in the body.

Kidney failure

Disturbances in the blood cells: A deficiency in the red or white blood cells of the body.

Problems in the heart/chest: Difficulty in breathing or mild pain in the chest due to inflammation in the lining of the heart or chest cavity.

Skin sensitivity: Rashes being caused immediately as a result of sun exposure.

Immunologic disruption: An immune system that is not able to fight even the viral infections easily. The immune system produces antibodies that target healthy cell tissues.

Neurological disorder: Psychosis or seizures becoming common.

Antinuclear antibodies: Abnormal agents in the body that fight cell nuclei.

The treatment of lupus varies because of the varied symptoms of lupus and its type and severity.

Are You Using The Following Lupus Relief Methods?

Lupus is a disease that occurs mainly in women and only about 10% of men have lupus but the symptoms of lupus are the same in men and women. The symptoms may vary from feeling very tired or having sleepless nights or having skin redness and itchy skin or it could be severe pain in the joints.

Patients suffering from lupus need to take a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables and need to avoid starchy foods and alcohol as these things may damage the heart and make the conditions worse in a patient.

SLE is the most common of all the lupus types. Treatment for lupus depends on the type of lupus and the intensity of the disease. It also varies from the symptoms of every individual person. Medication given for the treatment of lupus varies according to the symptoms of an individual. Doctors prescribe different medicines and wait for the results from the patient or change drugs according to the relief received by the patients. Drugs taken for the treatment of lupus have severe side effects. The most commonly taken drugs for the treatment are:

1.NSAIDs: This drug is given to reduce the fever and the pains in the joints.

2.Cytotoxic medications are given when the severity of the problem in the patient is very high. This treatment is given when more than one organ of the body is affected.

3.Corticosteroids help in reducing the inflammation at a very fast speed and this treatment has very low side effects but if the problem gets severe than higher doses of the medicine needs to be given.

4.DMARD is used in the treatment of lupus because it helps in protecting against the ultraviolet rays and helps in treating the skin rashes and the pains in the joints and muscles

For an alternative to these drugs on offer you may like to read my story, Please take a look at the home page for details.

There are four different types of lupus. All are autoimmune disorders, but they’re distinct in terms of symptoms and other characteristics. Let’s individually examine each of the types of lupus.

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Also known as “systemic lupus” or “lupus” Systemic lupus is the most frequently encountered form of the disorder. When people talk about “lupus,” they’re usually referring to systemic lupus.

There are a number of different symptoms associated with systemic lupus. They range from joint swelling to muscle pain to Reynaud’s phenomena to swelling in the legs. The long symptoms rarely present themselves simultaneously and many systemic lupus sufferers may only experience a handful of the possible signs.

Systemic lupus can vary in terms of severity. However, it is a very serious disorder for many people. The condition can have a dramatic impact on critical organ systems. Lupus sufferers may experience significant kidney damage, strokes or heart attacks due to the condition.

Cutaneous Lupus Erythmatosus

Also known as “discoid lupus”. Systemic lupus can attack a number of systems and has a wide range of symptoms. Cutaneous lupus, on the other hand, is limited to skin-related symptoms. While that does make it less dangerous than systemic lupus, it’s still a frustrating, painful and potentially destructive disorder.

Discoid lupus usually announces itself with rashes and skin discoloration. Other symptoms include hair loss, rashes within the ear and on the lining of the mouth, and the development of sores and plaque atop scaly rashes.

Research indicates that as many as one of every ten people with cutaneous lupus eventually develop systemic lupus.

Drug-induced Lupus Erythematosus

The third of the four types of lupus is quite different from the first two. Systemic and discoid lupus have no identifiable cause. Experts believe that genetics may impact susceptibility, but the actual trigger for the diseases remains unknown. That’s not the case with drug-induced lupus erythematosus.

This lupus-like malady is a direct outgrowth of the use of specific prescription medications. Hydrolyzing (a hypertension medication), procainamide (a heart medicine) and isoniazid (a prescription for those with tuberculosis) may lead the body to experience a collection of symptoms that mirror those associated with systemic lupus.

However, the condition is usually short-lived, lasting only a few months after the use of the medications before dissipating and rarely have an adverse impact on the body’s systems.

Neonatal Lupus

The last of the four types of lupus is experienced exclusively by infants born to women who have lupus. The mother’s antibodies influencing the unborn child while in the womb trigger it. Upon birth, the baby may display symptoms common to systemic lupus including liver problems, rashes and low counts of specific blood cells.

Fortunately, neonatal lupus is quite rare and tends to disappear with a few moths of birth. There usually isn’t any permanent damage related to the condition.

As you can see, lupus takes a variety of forms. The four types of lupus share some commonalities but are also quite distinguishable from one another.

The most common symptoms of SLE

Systemic lupus, which is often referred to simply as “lupus” is an autoimmune disorder that can present a number of severe symptoms. However, each individual case varies, with different people experiencing different assortments of systemic lupus symptoms.

Some systemic lupus symptoms are more common than others, however. Physicians often look for these as a sign that lupus (for which there is no definitive test) is a correct diagnosis. Those common symptoms include:

Swollen joints and associated pain

Muscle aches and pains

Swelling in the legs

Depression

Sensitivity to sunlight

Excessive fatigue

Swelling of the lymph nodes and other glands

Chest pains associated with breathing deeply

Anemia

Unexplained fevers that seem to come and go without impetus

Rashes, especially those that redden the face

Unexplained dizziness

Hair loss, often related to rashes on the scalp

Kidney inflammation

Swelling around the eyes

Ulcers of the mouth and rashes on the lining of the mouth

Intense cold sensitivity in the fingers or toes, often resulting in a purple discoloration

These systemic lupus symptoms may vary in their intensity and may present themselves irregularity. While few lupus sufferers experience all of the most common symptoms, most will deal with at least a handful of them at some point and may have one or two that are particularly pronounced.

The combined impact of these systemic lupus symptoms can have severe repercussions on the body and its systems.

For instance, kidney inflammation can reduce the body’s capacity to eliminate waste, leading to a build up of toxins and permanent damage to the kidneys. That’s just one example. Lupus can also have a severe impact on the central nervous system in some individuals. They may be left to deal with painful headaches, memory problems, blurred vision, behavior changes and even seizures.

The impact of lupus on the circulatory system can be quite pronounced, as well. Inflammation of blood vessels related to lupus may necessitate prescription drug use to ward off potentially fatal consequences. Anemia related to lupus can sap one’s strength and ability to fend off other illnesses. Some lupus sufferers experience an increased risk of dangerous blood clots. In slightly rarer cases, lupus can directly affect the heart itself and may dramatically boost the likelihood of atherosclerosis.

Obviously, lupus presents a number of medical challenges. The range of systemic lupus symptoms is vast and the potential consequences of these problems exceed mere discomfort or pain.

Hair loss is a symptom of lupus. It is something with which sufferers of both cutaneous and systemic lupus must often deal. In fact, it is one of the most common lupus symptoms. Experts report that between forty-five and fifty percent of all people with lupus will experience alopecia, or hair loss, at some point. Lupus and hair loss, it would seem, often go hand in hand.

Many people become worried about lupus and hair loss after being diagnosed with the disorder. When one considers the potentially severe consequences of the disease, it may seem strange that people would focus their attention on what is basically a purely aesthetic matter. Why worry about hair when heart problems, kidney issues or other potentially devastating risks are present?

It is a testament to how much we value our appearance and, to a large extent, the attention heaped upon lupus and hair loss is evidence of our societal expectations for women. More women than men experience lupus and many women respond to the news that they may be forced to deal with hair loss with a great deal concern.

Fortunately, hair loss tends to appear at the onset of the disease. It may reappear during periods of aggravation, but it is rarely long lasting and almost always reverses its course in a matter of months.

Lupus causes hair loss due when the condition interferes with hair follicles. That has generally associated with the scalp rashes many lupus victims experience. However, the medications physicians use to stave off other, more medically severe symptoms can also cause hair loss. Immunosuppressive medications often have this side effect.

While there are cases in which a severe rash can leave an individual with a permanent area of alopecia, that is the exception to the rule of lupus and hair loss. It is much more common for the phenomena to be a temporary situation.

The link between lupus and hair loss is unmistakable and alopecia is a common symptom of the disorder. While it is not threatening to one’s overall well-being, it can be quite disturbing and many lupus sufferers develop a great deal of anxiety over the possibility of “going bald.” Those fears are perfectly understandable, but they are generally unnecessary. Hair loss is usually limited both in terms of quantity and in terms of longevity. Most lupus sufferers do not need to be worried about significant, permanent hair loss.

Systemic lupus can affect vital organs, joints and the central nervous system. Discoid lupus is less common than systemic lupus and is a form of the autoimmune disease that has symptoms limited to the skin.

As is the case with systemic lupus, there is no single known cause of discoid lupus. Research indicates that a genetic component may influence the likelihood of developing the disorder, but there’s no known “discoid lupus gene.” Most medical experts believe that a combination of multiple factors may set the malady into motion.

Not surprisingly, there is no way to test for the presence of discoid lupus. Symptoms present themselves and may give a doctor adequate information to make a diagnosis. The doctor will usually consider the nature of the symptoms, their severity, the patient’s medical history, the results of any completed blood work and a host of other factors when deciding whether someone should be diagnosed with discoid lupus.

There is a variety of discoid lupus symptoms. The inflammatory autoimmune disorder attacks the sufferer’s skins in a number ways, due to the presence of blood antibodies that seem to work against the well-being of their own tissues.

The skin-related discoid lupus symptoms vary with the individual, but there are some that are much more frequently experienced than others are. Here are some of the most common discoid lupus symptoms:

Rash inside the ear

Changes in pigmentation

Long-lasting rashes (from days to years)

Gray-colored scales atop rash-affected areas

Raised, red rash frequently experienced on the face or scalp

Horny plugs

Rash on the bridge of one’s nose

Enlargement of the lymph nodes

A persistent trunk rash

Frequent rashes on the body’s limbs

Scaly rashes

Scarring subsequent to rashes

Hair loss subsequent to scalp rashes

Elevated gamma globulin levels in one’s blood

Rash on the lining of the mouth

Numerous red skin patches on different parts of the body

This is not an exhaustive list of discoid lupus symptoms. Additionally, most people who do receive a diagnosis will not experience all of the above-references discoid lupus symptoms. Most sufferers will display at least a handful with some of them tending to be quite severe, however.

Discoid lupus is a mysterious autoimmune disorder than can have a number of skin-related symptoms. While there is no established cure for lupus, a variety of lifestyle and dietary changes can result in an overall decrease in the severity of discoid lupus symptoms.
